Summer Training

·

I am committed to becoming a better climber (mentally and physically). This summer I am employing a 4-3-2-1 training cycle to gear me up for my trip to Yosemite. Yes, this is another one of my performance management extravaganzas powered by Behavior Analysis.

I will be using the chart below to keep track of my training. Basically, for the next four weeks I am going to do as much climbing as possible, 3 to 4 times a week (endurance). Then, I will switch gears to maximize strength and power for 3 weeks, then working on anaerobic endurance for two weeks. I will then rest for a week, and then I will start a new cycle. I've already climbed 3 days this week, and I plan on either hitting the gym tomorrow or going to Grand Ledge on Sunday.

Obviously I am not a fitness guru. The training cycle and corresponding chart is based off of Eric Horst's wonderful book, Training for Climbing. Visit his Web site at www.trainingforclimbing.com. I'm currently looking for a performance manager, and once I find one, I will set up appropriate contingencies to keep me on track. I'll keep you posted.
